The Buddy System Plus One

April 25, 2008

The buddy system plus one

I remember when I was young people with authority had what they called the buddy system. The buddy system was used when ever there was a bunch of kids in a situation when we could get in trouble or get hurt. The system involved us grouping together in pairs

Thinking back on this I believe they had the system for a reason, ease of safety. The authority figures job was to make sure all the kids in a group were safe, and your job (as the child or student) was to stay with your buddy and make sure they were safe. When the buddy system was done correctly the difficulty of the teacher’s job was cut by half.

We have a little different take on this buddy system idea.

Everyone in our plan has to be responsible for everyone else in the group. At any given time you should know where at least two other people in your group are, and they should each know where two other people are. Think of it as though it is a pyramid, we suggest drawing it out and keeping copies around for easy placement during an event. If two people of the group are out, at least two other people know where the first two are at all times. We feel this is the best way to keep track of members within your survival group during an event. In later updates we will provide you with a diagram on this system.

Order

March 30, 2008

Survival requires one thing: OrderSomeone always has to be in charge. This idea seems like it would be common sense, but it never works out that way. One moment you think everyone is going along with a plan, then the next moment, someone in the group decides that they know better. This person believes he/she has a better idea, and they want to deviate from the plan. They don’t care what you want, what anyone else wants, only that they are right and you are wrong.Thing is, most of the time, they are wrong. To survive, there has to be order. There has to be rhyme and reason for everything. There has to be someone whose responsibility it is to keep this order. We call this person: The Leader. Survival is not a pissing or a popularity contest, and the leader knows this. The most important question the leader will ask themselves everyday is, “How many people will be alive at the end of this day?”. This question should be the basis of every decision in survival. The idea, at the end of each day, is to have the highest possible number of survivors. Survivors = Survival.Survival is not a Democracy. What we are trying to say here is that there should be one person to decide what is done, one person in charge. Opinions will, of course, be welcomed, but that does not mean that they will be heeded. The person who is put in charge will ultimately be the one to decide what to do. Once there is a plan set into motion, there should be no votes, no arguments, and NO changes to the plan. However, adaptations may be accepted, and implemented by the leader when necessary. When choosing a leader for the group, it should be someone everyone trusts, someone that will always think of the group’s well being before his or her own. This person will need to have quick mental and physical reflexes, as he/she will be responsible for the long-term Order and thus, Survival of the group.

I’ve been reading a few threads recently about choices of weaponry when fighting zombies. I don’t really understand the idea of getting the biggest gun, the gun that shoots the farthest and the gun that shoots the fastest. I mean the whole idea is survival, not eradication. It’s about setting up a place that is safe. somewhere that you can live and be able to protect from zombies. It’s not about going out and hunting them, it’s not about shooting at one from 2 miles away with a gun that can shoot through the armor on a tank.
I think when choosing a weapon you have to be smart. In “Snow Crash” Hiro gets rid of his gun and takes the swords with him because the kids weren’t afraid of the gun. he made a smart choice on weapons given the situation. The thing is zombies aren’t afraid of anything. It’s not like shooting at a real person. you shoot at someone they take cover. You shoot at a zombie, unless you hit it in the head, it keeps coming, it doesn’t even know it has been shot. They are like the French infantry in Napoleon’s army. They came at the British in columns. Justa mass of guys that marched forward they guys in the back moving up to fill in the spots of the men that fell. The only way the British could defeat them was by pouring bullets into them. It was either destroy or break the column.
Zombies don’t break.
